' Yulia Nesis's Personal Exhibition at the Academy of Arts exhibition hall, intriguingly titled "Tumbleweed" and curated by Inna Khegay, gathers and presents the fruits of a unique experience that made the artist a mediator between the natural environment and her objects, creating expressive and original works , along with the Painting Class and the entire Academy, am grateful to our honorary Academician Francesco Bigazzi and the Italian Association of The Friends of the Hermitage Museum Association (Italy), who in this case, as in many others, have made contact with a sensitive master-innovator of international standing possible. The support of the Italian Ministry of Culture underscores the importance of this initiative. I have often been asked, and have asked myself, whether female art has its particular specificity, distinguishing it from male art. Without arriving at a definitive answer, because I am convinced that creative endeavor and achieved quality level are transversal values independent of gender. However, I do not deny that sometimes it seemed to me to fleetingly notice and highlight some distinctive features encountered in the artistic expression of women. I find two of them in Nesis in particular. These are full harmony with nature and full, loving respect for the material, an obedient tool for skillful shaping, so that it becomes a silent narrative of an internal project, dictated by the mind and heart. In Nesis's Land Art installations, objects (How to define them? Pseudo spherocones? Fake mega eggs? Circular traps?) support the territorial measure thanks to the essential quality of performance using subtle methods, executed with archaic patience. And their immersion in the natural landscape of forests, fields, and meadows is all the more harmonious as the artist herself prepares the layout, using beautiful drawings, foreseeing light radiation from the heavens and subsequent chiaroscuro effects, enhancing volume distribution and texture. Their connection with the natural environment represents an artificial integration (excuse the oxymoron): stable and calm, like findings of timeless human labor, they are at the same time an alien presence, bearers of an ancient and profound mystery. The same love for materials, the same care for methods Nesis brings to the textures of her interweavings and mixtures for the sheets of her papers, which are exhibited here in a significant anthology. These are works that speak of delicacy but not of fragility. On the contrary, works possessing gentle strength, expressing a contemporary interpretation of ancient styles and ancient knowledge.
